International Temperate Reefs Symposium (ITRS) 2025

The International Temperate Reefs Symposium (ITRS) is the premier conference for marine scientists with a focus on temperate hard-bottom habitats. The scope is broad and captures natural rocky reefs, man-made structures and biogenic surfaces. Ecology is a key focus, but the meeting also caters for other scientific disciplines relevant to temperate reef biology including biogeochemistry, genetics, oceanography, remote sensing, biogeography and management, not to mention the vast array of interdisciplinary links.
The 14th ITRS organisers have curated a selection of themes and sub-themes to highlight the diversity of current research on temperate reef ecology, with a particular focus on temperate reef conservation, their importance for biodiversity and coastal ecosystems and the challenges they face with climate change.
AquaPLAN coordiantor Elena Maggi will give a keynote on Tuesday 1 July titled: New approaches to the study of temperate reefs: night-time light pollution and the role of the microbiome while fellow AquaPLAN researcher Martina Mulas, Thomas Davies and Charlotte Underwood will present AquaPLAN research, stay tuned!
