LPTMM Conference 2026
Theme: Need of measurement standards in light pollution science
The Light Pollution: Theory, Modelling and Measurements (LPTMM) Conference 2026 will take place from 13–16 May 2026 in Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico, bringing together leading experts to address one of the most pressing environmental challenges of our time, light pollution.
This international meeting will focus on recent advances in scientific research on light pollution and its impacts across multiple domains, including astronomy, ecology, human health, and urban planning. A key theme for this edition is the need for measurement standards in light pollution science, aiming to improve the effectiveness of current techniques and foster innovation in modelling and analysis.
The conference will feature:
- Scientific sessions with talks and poster presentations.
- Roundtable discussions for in-depth debates on measurement and modelling challenges.
- Excursions, including visits to the International Dark Sky Park Attersee-Traunsee, to explore practical strategies for protecting natural night skies.
With the rise of high-performance computing, researchers can now perform more accurate simulations of light pollution, enabling better predictions and mitigation strategies. The event will serve as a platform to formulate new research directions, share best practices, and strengthen collaboration among scientists, policymakers, and industry stakeholders.
Who should attend?
- Researchers in astronomy, physics, ecology and environmental sciences
- Urban planners and lighting engineers
- Policymakers and NGOs focused on sustainability and biodiversity
The LPTMM Conference aims to bridge theory and practice, ensuring that scientific insights translate into effective policies and technologies for a healthier, darker night sky.
