EURODARK 2026 – 17th European Symposium for the Protection of the Natural Night
The Symposium will be a hub for people interested or working in the field of the protection of the natural night, policymaking, light industries, light pollution and its impact, with participants from both local areas as well as all over Europe. Together we can put our ideas and theories into action and continue to drive positive changes.
This year’s edition will focus on interdisciplinary and practical knowledge exchange. Next to keynotes, workshops and presentations we want to offer possibilities to network, to get to know each other and to experience the natural night in Kaunertal firsthand.
The DARKER SKY project will host a workshop (Tuesday, 6.10.26, 14:00) focusing on the question: ‘How can we make better use of existing knowledge, tools and materials from light pollution projects and strengthen future cooperation across Europe?’ Nynke Visser from the University of Groningen will host the workshop, supported by Annette Krop-Benesch, who will also introduce the European Light Pollution Coalition (ELPC).
Workshop abstract: Light pollution projects across Europe have produced a wealth of valuable knowledge, tools, guidelines and other materials. Yet these outputs can be difficult to find, and work is sometimes repeated because existing resources or expertise are not known across projects, countries and organisations. This workshop will explore how we can better connect and build on existing project results, expertise and networks across Europe. We will also look ahead to future cooperation: where are the gaps, what could new projects build on, and where could stronger collaboration add value? Together, we will identify opportunities to strengthen continuity between past, current and future initiatives, avoid unnecessary duplication, and support new collaborations on light pollution across Europe.
