New Portuguese participants join AquaPLAN!

We are very pleased and excited to announce new Portuguese participants, Faculty of Sciences of the University of Lisbon (CIENCIASULISBOA) along with FCiências.ID – Associação para a Investigação e Desenvolvimento de Ciências (FC.ID) have joined the AquaPLAN project consortium!
CIENCIASULISBOA and FC.ID are adding a new land-cover type of urban (typified in the “Artificial surfaces and Constructions” in the European Land-Cover map), new habitats of ponds and small streams and new animals, freshwater macroinvertebrates and amphibians to AquaPLAN. Not only this, they are also adding a scientific novelty, which is considering the potential impacts of a particular consequence of noise pollution, substrate vibration, which can be an important factor in shallow water systems. These valuable novelties will contribute to enhancing the relevance and impact of AquaPLAN’s objectives. Considering that many water habitats in cities are increasingly built or managed as nature-based solutions to provide water quality and flux regulation, as well as microclimate regulation and to support biodiversity. CIENCIASULISBOA and FC.ID will also be focusing on technological and nature-based management. Whenever thresholds for the effects of light and noise pollution on biodiversity can be calculated, this approach will also provide co-benefits to human well-being, especially for those living in urban areas.
It is with thanks to the European Research Executive Agency’s Hop-on Facility which allows research institutions from Widening countries such as Portugal to join already ongoing R&I actions such as AquaPLAN under the Horizon Europe Pillar 2 and EIC Pathfinder. Widening countries include Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Estonia, Greece, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovakia nad Slovenia.
Keep up to date with all the latest from AquaPLAN
