Got freshwater sounds? Consider contributing to the Freshwater Sounds Archive!

The Freshwater Sounds Archive is a project that endeavours to compile a global database of sounds made by freshwater soniferous (sound-producing) species. Led by acoustic ecologist Jack Greenhalgh in collaboration with FishSounds, the objectives are to compile the body of knowledge now available on the sounds made by freshwater species and offer a free platform for future research.
Those who contribute sounds to the archive will be included as co-authors in the resulting data paper, allowing the creation of an archive that showcases the amazing work of people that work within this field!
Deadline for submission of sounds is 31 December 2025
What are the requirements for submission?
The submitted sound(s) must be:
-
Recorded by a hydrophone in a freshwater habitat
-
Produced by a freshwater species
-
Submitted in a .wav format alongside appropriate metadata (see attached below).
How do I submit my sounds to the archive?
Follow the Submission Instructions, all submissions are welcome and are to be uploaded to The Freshwater Sounds Archive Google Drive folder
